Smart IoT Pet Feeder

01. Devoforge Expertise

This project demonstrates strong expertise in IoT product development by combining embedded systems, mechanical design, and real-world usability testing. It reflects hands on experience with ESP32 microcontrollers, servo-driven mechanisms, power management, and custom enclosure design for functional consumer products.

02. Client Requirements

The primary requirement was to design a reliable pet feeder capable of dispensing food on a fixed schedule with consistent portion sizes. The system needed to support remote control, continue operating during power outages, and integrate all components into a compact, well-designed enclosure suitable for daily use.

03. Proposed Solution

A smart feeding system based on an ESP32 microcontroller was proposed, using a real-time clock for accurate scheduling and a servo motor for controlled food dispensing. A battery-backed power system and mobile app integration were included to ensure reliability and user convenience.

04. Implemented Solution

The final system feeds pets three times per day with approximately 150 grams per serving. A calibrated servo motor rotates precisely 60° to release food, ensuring consistent portions. Dual 3.7V batteries with a booster module allow the feeder to continue operating even during external power loss.

05. Our Process

The development process began with problem analysis and requirement definition, followed by mechanical design of the enclosure and dispensing mechanism. Electronics were then integrated, firmware was developed and tested, and the servo was tuned through multiple iterations to achieve accurate and reliable feeding.

06. 3D Enclosure Design

The enclosure and internal structure were fully designed in 3D and printed using ABS material with 15% infill. The design ensures sufficient strength, proper component alignment, and ease of maintenance while maintaining a clean and compact form factor.

07. Circuit Design

The electronic system consists of an ESP32 microcontroller, an RTC module for precise timing, a servo motor for dispensing control, two 3.7V lithium batteries, a booster module to provide stable 5V to the servo, and a USB Type-C charging interface.

08. Challenges

The electronic system consists of an ESP32 microcontroller, an RTC module for precise timing, a servo motor for dispensing control, two 3.7V lithium batteries, a booster module to provide stable 5V to the servo, and a USB Type-C charging interface.

09. Revisions

To address these challenges, multiple revisions were implemented. The front panel was redesigned for better visibility, the servo was recalibrated to a precise 60° movement, wiring was improved, and a booster module was added to ensure reliable power delivery to the motor.

10. Final Version (Result)

The final Smart IoT Pet Feeder reliably dispenses accurate food portions three times per day, continues operating during power outages, and has been tested with real pets. The project successfully demonstrates a complete hardware-software product suitable for real-world use and future feature expansion.
