With the rapid rise of e-commerce, porch piracy has become a serious issue in urban and suburban regions, particularly in Western countries

Traditional surveillance solutions provide alerts after theft occurs but do not physically prevent it.

The client required a solution that could:

  1. Confirm genuine parcel delivery
  2. Prevent unauthorized removal
  3. Reduce false alerts caused by animals or environmental disturbances
  4. Integrate with smart home ecosystems
  5. Operate reliably in outdoor conditions
  6. Provide real-time notifications
  7. Verify parcel authenticity based on weight

Additionally, the system had to differentiate between real theft attempts and interference from animals such as squirrels, raccoons, or pets.

03. Proposed Solution

Devoforge proposed a Smart IoT Weight-Based Parcel Protection System built around an ESP32 microcontroller and precision load sensing technology

The concept:
A smart scale platform placed at the entrance of a home where parcels are delivered. The system would:

  1. Detect parcel placement.
  2. Compare actual weight with expected delivery weight.
  3. Lock the parcel after successful verification.
  4. Monitor micro-weight changes continuously.
  5. Trigger alarms and notifications upon unauthorized removal.

This design transforms a passive delivery location into an active security zone.

04. Implemented Solution

The final product is a modular embedded IoT system integrating weight sensing, intelligent verification, locking mechanisms, and wireless communication.

09. Revisions

We also enhanced intelligent behavior analysis by integrating IR-based detection using MLX90614 to detect the presence of living organisms via IR radiation.

This allows the system to:

  2. Ignore minor disturbances
  3. Detect only genuine lifting actions

These revisions significantly reduced false alarms — a major limitation in traditional smart security systems

10. Final Version (Result)

The final Smart Parcel Scale System delivers:
